| After a weekend in Missouri, I drove to the St. Louis airport to head out to Arizona for work. Above are a few pictures from Arizona. The high temps that week fluctuated between 110 and 120 while I was out there (!) | ||

| Work needed me out there for two weeks in a row, so I had a weekend out west. I decided to drive out to Los Angeles and visit some friends. The first picture above is of Dave and Glen in front of Dave's new house in Los Angeles. Glen and I decided to visit Santa Monica. Above are a few pictures of the Santa Monica pier and beach. We took these shots from a cliff overlooking the beach. | ||
21 July 2003 -- IN, OH, WV, PA, NJ, NY, CT, RI, MA, NH, ME
I decided to take a week off and visit Jen in New York. I took the motorcycle. I stopped overnight in Pittsbugh each way. I took this picture of rows of corn along the Grand Army of the Republic Highway in Indiana. I thought it was appropriate for this trip because, as we all know, driving past rows of corn during the day is much like flying into New York's LaGuardia Airport at night.
I stopped in Pittsburgh and sayed with Cathy and Adam Aulick. They have two kids: Havoc is three and Persephone is 11 months. Havoc has a great career ahead of him as a motorcycle test rider and stunt man.
I finally made it to NYC, and I only got rained on for a few hours. Above is a picture of Jen, the expectant mother, with her sonogram pictures. The baby is due January 28th -- I wonder how many first babies are exactly one day early.
Rather than sit in 90+ degree heat in NYC, Jen and I decided to drive up the coast. We spent one day in Newport, RI. The day we arrived we spent some time on the beach.
The next morning we visited The Breakers in Newport. It's a 70-room "summer cottage" built by the Vanderbilt family in the 19th Century. It was simply charming.
After we saw the breakers, we drove up the coast to Maine. As soon as we made it into Maine we stopped and had lobsters (duh!).
We spent two nights in Kennebunk. We stopped by for a visit at the Bush summer home, but someone dropped the ball because the nice man at the gate didn't know we were coming. We did take a nice picture of the house the secret service lives in -- notice the stunning yellow and blue flag near all the black SUVs.
Kennybunkport was very funny. Maybe it was just us, but we talked about the Flaming Gourmet for days afterwards. And we both hoped that Kennybunkport raised plenty of money for their new shool. They really do need a new shool. Did W attend the old one?
Jen and I drove back down to New York and spent the afternoon at Coney Island and Brighton Beach. Mabye next summer, instead of going to Slovenia, I will hire a Russian tutor and spend a few weeks at Brighton Beach. Hmm.
After Coney Island and Brighton Beach we went back to Jen and Twan's place. We had dinner up on their roof.

10 August 2002 -- a week at mom's
| |
|
Last week I took the motorcycle to my mom's place in Missouri. I brought my digital camera, and took a few pictures.

|
Two of my sisters were visiting at the same time I was, and Heather brought her fiancee. We took the boat out on Monday, because the weekend traffic had died down -- which makes for a much smoother ride. The water in the Lake of the Ozarks tends to get choppy over weekends.

My sister Jen and I went to Ha Ha Tonka park on Tuesday. We saw the ruins of a castle some rich guy started building on a bluff over the lake. He died in one of Missouri's first car accidents in 1906, so his sons finished building the castle. Then, in 1942, it burned down -- and all that's left are the stones. Jen brought her dogs, Blue and Cory. Just about everyone there came up to us and started petting the dogs. Only some of them even asked if they would bite. It's a wonder that dogs make people more friendly -- do these dogs look very friendly to you?
